I am a middle school general music teacher. I also direct the 6-8 grade chorus and was looking for a way to promote the chorus - especially to the new sixth graders and to the middle school boys. I composed this rap and performed it during the lunch periods, complete with baseball hat, sunglasses, big sports T-shirt and background music (you can download instrumental hip-hop/rap accompaniments on iTunes). Here is the rap (obviously feel free to personalize and tweak to fit your situation):

I am Mrs. Philhower and I wrote this rhyme,

to talk about a group in this school that's prime!

I'm talkin' 'bout the chorus, it's for kids who like to sing.

Some of you are sayin', "Well that ain't my thing!"

Well, let me tell you why it's a gig you can't miss.

Here's the top ten reasons and they go like this:

  1. It's a place where you get to be LOUD.
  2. In the chorus you can stand out in a crowd!
  3. Train for singing and your abs will be tighter.
  4. No books or instruments - your load's much lighter!
  5. It's a great way to meet a girl or guy,
  6. or to make new friends if you are kind of shy!
  7. Girls love a guy who has an awesome voice.
  8. Singing helps your brain to make a better choice!
  9. Lots of famous people sang in school.
  10. Most important - Mrs. Philhower's SO cool!

So, if your mind has changed as you listened to my rap,

Stop on by and see me and I'll sign you right up!
