I used the Plank Road song "Rattling Bones," (from Music K-8, Vol. 10, No. 1) together with the book Shake dem Halloween Bones (by Nicola/Lisa and Reed, published by Houghton Mufflin Co). I taped the song four times so that the kids could sing "Rattlin' Bones" instead of the printed 'song' in the book. Reading the verse of the book fits perfectly into the instrumental sections of "Rattling Bones." My students love this. It is a great way to use a book with music. The children have to figure out what the book is referring to (nursery rhymes). It also goes along with our literacy programs in the school district.
