I have a bulletin board in my room with chili pepper lights taped around it. I call the words on the board "Red Hot Words To Remember." Throughout the year music vocabulary is referred to as "red words." Students recognize the term and know the word must be very important to be a red hot word. I even use red markers when writing the words on the board. When students answer open response questions, they're instructed to use their "red words" (music vocabulary) in their answers. Since students in Kentucky are assessed statewide in music by the department of education, vocabulary seen in answers bumps their scores up. "Red Hot Words To Remember" might work for some of you, if music is assessed in your own states.
