I Gave My Dog A Bath

by John Riggio

Anyone who has owned (or taken care of) a dog knows that certain precautions need to be taken before giving them a bath. This writer has observed that some dogs are not keen on the experience, and will enthusiastically shake off all the water as soon as they are given the chance. This song illustrates just one possible incident. To quote the old TV show Dragnet: The story you are about to hear is true. Only the names have been changed to protect the innocent. Just kidding. We don't mention any names in this song! But we could...

In spite of its triplet-based feel, this song is really pretty simple. It's geared towards primary students, and we have flute and clarinet playing the melody to assist them. You'll want to pick a soloist for the spoken lines, and we recommend someone who can be humorous. In our case, we used session singer Dawson Allen, who made us laugh with his delivery!

In performance, it might be fun to show videos of various students giving baths to their dogs – and the inevitable fur shaking that follows. (Raincoats optional, but recommended.)
