Remember To Remember (This Memorial Day)

by Mike Wilson

Memorial Day brings with it the opportunity to remember those who have served our country and defend the freedoms we all too often take for granted. "Remember To Remember" pays tribute to those living and dead who have made those freedoms reality. This gentle song combines a simple unison melody line with a rich string and horn orchestration on the recording.

The first verse is the "sung" verse. Verse two gets some of your narrators into action. The text of the narration may be recited by any combination of speakers, and should be performed with a serious, but not somber, tone. The "oohs" in the second verse repeat the melody of the first. The singers of the "oohs" should be careful not to overpower the speakers.

Use this song as a springboard for cross curricular discussion about self-sacrifice for greater good: virtue, honor, high ideals, and service to others. Study of the various American wars and conflicts naturally complement the subject matter as well as provide additional educational opportunities.
