Play Me A Cowbell

by Teresa Jennings

This simple tune has a simple purpose - to introduce a few non-pitched percussion instruments, one at a time. The vocal part introduces each instrument which then plays a demo. All four instruments then play together. Use the instruments named in the song or use any instruments you like and adapt the melody to fit the names. Consider having students write their own rhythms, too. To expand on this, add an Orff (mallet) or Boomwhacker® ostinato. (from Music K-8, Vol. 15, No. 4)
