Something Went Bump And Other Spooky Favorites
Plank Road Publishing
by Teresa Jennings, Anne Ellsworth, David Ellsworth, and Paul JenningsA Slightly Creepy Collection For Little Voices
These eight fun tunes will get your youngest singers moving, thumping, drumming, strumming, and dancing along! While most of the songs hint at Halloween, they don't actually mention the holiday so they can be used at other times of the year as well. Includes:
- Something Went Bump - Ah, the mystery! The suspense! The hand drums! What could it be that is lurking behind that door? Only your students' imaginations can conjure up the answer to that one. Despite the spooky quality of the tune, it's not over-the-top scary, making it ideal for use with younger kids.
- I'm A Little Ghost - You just have to let your youngest singers express their inner specters with this super easy, slightly spooky song. With or without ghostly costumes, their imaginations will spirit them away while singing!
- The Ghoul In School - If you must have a ghoul at your school, why not invite this friendly, teacher-helping kind to hang around? This imagination song for young voices has a simple, yet catchy quarter note rhythm in the verse, describing what a friendly ghoul likes to do in school.
- Pumpkin Puzzler - This simple movement song is based on "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." Our adaptation is particularly charming, using a lighthearted classical approach. The most fun part is the very end of the song.
- Spooky Ukee - Even ukuleles can sound spooky when they play a minor chord! Using only the Ami chord, this song is easy enough for students to sing and play at the same time.
- Skeleton Shake - Let your young students pretend they are skeletons and move, dance, and shake! The music includes some movement suggestions, but we've also included a simple choreography video for you to use as is or to adapt as needed.
- I'm A Little Scarecrow - Here's a very short and simple tune for your youngest singers. Seasonal if you like, but not necessarily, it lets them pretend that they are little scarecrows chasing away crows. Optional claps and movement suggestions can be used as shown, or adapt however it works best for you.
- Did You Hear That Sound? - Get out that box of unpitched percussion instruments! This simple jazzy shuffle gives your students the chance to creatively add percussive effects and/or sound effects in predetermined spots. Change the descriptive words to scary ones if you wish (for example, "It was moaning," or "It was howling") and let students respond with corresponding effects.
