John Kanaka

adapted/arr. Paul Jennings

The sea shanty "John Kanaka" originates in the South Sea Islands. It's known as a "halyard shanty," meaning that it was often sung by the sailors while hoisting the biggest sails on the ship. We include four verses, carefully adapted for young singers. (from Music K-8, Vol. 26, No. 1)
