Young and Old

From Plank Road Publishing

by Teresa Jennings

This Latin jazz song is a light and functional piece to use with groups of varying ages. The chorus is simple, starting with a call and response, and going into a quarter note based verse. It repeats exactly, so even your youngest singers will be able to participate. There's also a flute solo during which you may add your own percussion, if you wish.

Consider using the song with classes of varying ages, alternating which group calls and which responds. Or use it as an audience participation song, letting the students call and the audience respond. If your classes visit senior residences, it might also be appropriate to use there. (from Music K-8, Vol. 8, No. 5)

(Run time: 3:18)
