A New Jersey school district surveyed by the Center on Education Policy has found that many of their schools have doubled the amount of time spent on reading and math due to NCLB. With the exception of instrumental music for high-performing students, arts programs are no longer part of the school curriculum and have been moved to after-school programs. District and school administrators almost solely attribute the exclusion of the arts programs to the need for schools to increase reading and math scores.
