Rhythm Flash Cards

I started using rhythm flash cards with my kindergarten class this morning, using just quarter notes and quarter note rests. They learned to pat on the quarter notes for the first card. When we got to the quarter note rest, I asked them what action we could do for it, and one boy shot his hand up and said, "We could wiggle, because it looks like a wiggle line."

So there we were, patting on the quarter notes and wiggling on the rests. They learned that the quarter note gets one pat on the drum and the 'rest' gets one wiggle without a drum pat. It was such fun.
