I have a class with an attitude like if it wasn't on the VH-1 countdown, it's not gonna be on their playlist either. Well, I challenge them first. "Find one of your songs that teaches __________ (whatever we're working on)." That puts the responsibility on them. If they don't respond to that, invite them to teach themselves via BORING (make them EXTRA BORING) worksheets. We have ways of making them respond.
