Regift It

by John Riggio

It's probably happened to you. You open a gift, and it's, well, less than inspiring. But wait! Not all hope is lost! Maybe there's someone out there who will truly appreciate this gift. And that's what this song is about. "Regift It" pokes fun at getting that non-perfect gift, then giving it away.

The song itself is simple to sing, but what makes it funny is the spoken lines. John found actual products online that might be good candidates for regifting. We recommend listening to our tracks to see how our studio singers performed it, but feel free to put your own spin on it. For instance, we tried performing the last line – "Oh, this is just what I wanted!" – both sincerely and sarcastically, and when we heard it in the mix, we thought it was funnier sarcastically. But you could pretend the recipient who is getting the regifted item really actually likes it. You can also come up with items to regift instead of the ones we've chosen. To facilitate this, we have a full performance version with no spoken solos you can download from our web site.

For performance, have some wrapped gifts as props, and maybe some gift bags. Have the actors look into the gift bags/boxes, then look at the audience with a look of dread. Or do a palm-to-the-face/head shake, or some other silly gesture before saying their lines.
