Polar Puppy

by Teresa Jennings

Here's a cute and simple novelty song for your youngest holiday performers. The style of the tune (Arctic Rock) is characterized by the use of lots of eighth notes played in a punchy sort of way. The instrumental tracks are also way cool (pun intended).

The real fun of the song comes from the star of the show - The Polar Puppy! Be sure to select a student who is not too shy when it comes to putting his best, um, paw forward. There are a number of spots (pun intended again) throughout the song for solo barks. While the tune suggests that this is one puppy, you can choose to make it several. We had a number of kids offer their interpretations of puppy barks for the recording. You could even change all the singular references to plural, if you want.

In any event, you'll want to have your puppy costumed with the basics: ears, nose, tail. Let him dance around freely during the tune. Invite Santa, a few reindeer, and maybe some elves to join in as well.
