Cantamos En Nuestra Escuela

by Mike Wilson

Here's a different slant on Music In Our Schools Month. "Cantamos En Nuestra Escuela" is a very high energy Spanish offering. The more energy you can pull out of your choir, the better this song will come off in performance. There is plenty of percussion and screaming brass to help you in that effort. Though the vocal arrangement is unison, it is geared more toward your older choirs. However, we found that even with some complex rhythms and intervals, our youngest studio kids picked it right up.

As usual, you will find a pronunciation guide on our web site. (See details on page 63.) Here is the translation:

Cantamos en nuestra escuela - We're singing (or we sing) in our school.
¡Música! ¡Música! - Music! Music!
¡Celebramos! - We celebrate! or Let's celebrate!
Cantamos juntos. - Sing together.
¡Cantamos nuestra canción! - We're singing our song!

For the sake of syntax a diphthong was used for the word "nuestra." Typically it is pronounced more like a two syllable word, as you will hear in the pronunciation guide. Remember, Spanish always sounds better if you smile while you sing it!
