Go In Peace

Sometimes the simplest songs are the most enjoyable. With such a short, sweet melody and lovely sentiment, "Go In Peace" is one of our favorites in this issue. It reminds us of the moment during a church service when we are invited to turn to our neighbors and offer a few kind words and a gesture of peace – a handshake, a smile, a nod, even a hug. For some reason, that moment resonates and connects us to each other.

Truly, during the holiday season, the connection to each other plays a major role. Peace is a part of that role and is something we can all celebrate, no matter who we are or where we come from. Of course, it isn't just for the holiday season, so you could use this song any time at all.

To make it accessible for any age singer, the melody and lyrics are very simple and easy to remember. And while it repeats exactly, the second time through, you can add the optional second part. This makes it more usable for older singers, even adults. Plus it just sounds great. In measure 11, you will note an optional C is indicated on beat one in case the A is too low. To help you teach the second part, we have isolated it and put it online. (See details on page 77.)

The arrangement on the recording is absolutely beautiful. The full orchestra features lush, rich chords and countermelodies that enhance the simplicity of the melody without overshadowing it. Even so, we have written the piano part so that it can be played live if you prefer.
