You're My Bud!

by David & Anne Ellsworth

Start the school year out by encouraging your young students to make friends. Usually, younger kids are pretty accepting of each other, so it should be a natural thing for you to develop this concept. And this very lively song can help! Odds are, even little kids know what "bud" means, but just in case, you can tell them that it's short for "buddy." (Just a side note: While we present this in the spirit of starting the school year right socially, we think this would also be a terrific piece for Valentine's Day since it focuses on friendship.)

Verses 1 and 3 are the same on our recording, while verse 2 is different, though you could certainly simplify it further for very young kids and just repeat the same verse all times. The melody is very easy, of course, with nothing more difficult than quarter and half notes. Though we imagine most of you will let your kids learn this by rote with the recording. And why wouldn't you? It's a pretty exciting and fun recording!

We have no doubt that all of the special vocal effects and layers of rockin' rhythm and synth grooves will keep your little buds smiling all the while. And in case you want to share this with them: Our own buds in the recording studio helped us put this together as only buds could do. Thanks, buds!
