Follow Me Around The Room

by Teresa & Paul Jennings

This little call and response tune is very easy, making it ideal for younger age groups. Not only can they practice being leaders and followers, they get to sing together a bit as well, plus they do it all while moving around the room. More than that, the three verses – pick up your feet, lift up your hands, and put on a smile – offer suggestions for simple actions they can perform while moving around the room, encouraging coordination and multitasking. You can, of course, change these to actions of your own. (Ask the kids for their ideas!)

A traditional marching band on the recording provides a familiar accompaniment. Consider adding your own rhythm instruments to the mix for even more fun. Non-pitched types like cowbells and rhythm sticks would be best. Create patterns they can learn and repeat, or let them play freely as they march.
