Many products have crossed my desk over the years, however one caught my eye and captured my imagination, Freddie the Frog. Having worked with a young children's choir for many years, I saw the potential for teaching musical concepts with all the components offered.
Freddie the Frog is a character whose story is told in a book entitled,
Freddie The Frog And The Thump In The Night. The book focuses on the concept of the treble clef, which can be reinforced visually, orally, or kinesthetically.
The book is beautifully illustrated and visually enticing. The
Freddie The Frog And The Thump In The Night - Flashcard Set helps to reinforce the concept of the treble clef. Each side has the note displayed, either of the colorful image referenced in the book or the actual note, itself.
In addition, the concepts come to life, not only with a CD which accompanies the book, but also with the main star - Freddie the Frog. When the
14" Freddie The Frog Hand Puppet came into our warehouse, Freddie immediately started to talk. All right, I admit it, I put a "voice" to Freddie right off the bat! Freddie (see, already we are on a first name basis), loves snuggling and giving hugs. He is a very "hands on" kinda guy.
My imagination took Freddie (the puppet) one step further. As a teacher, I would use Freddie to teach other musical concepts. Freddie could become a mascot of the music room, introducing and reinforcing musical terms through out the year. Even with team teaching, Freddie could "help" other teachers in their classrooms.
It just sounds like fun to me! However, beware, once you let Freddie start talking - he will only entice children to listen and learn!
